Qatar Announces State Budget For 2026

Qatar recently announced its 2026 budget and revealed that total expected expenditure stands at QAR 221 billion (USD 60.71 billion) and revenue amounts to QAR 199 billion (USD 54.67 billion).

Government Focus Aims To Empower Qatar`s Private Sector

The 2026 budget includes sectoral expenditure distributions, government contracting plans and the financing of the Third National Development Strategy. Several new initiatives were revealed by the Ministry of Finance to empower and engage the Qatari private sector. The new budget represents a continuation of the balanced fiscal approach adopted by the State. Accordingly, it aims to achieve financial sustainability, enhance economic growth, improve public spending efficiency. In addition, it is expected to provide an investment friendly environment, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.

In terms of main sector allocations, education receives QAR 21.8 billion (USD 5.98 billion), while the health sector gets QAR 25.4 billion (USD 6.97 billion). This reflects the State’s continued commitment to developing human capital and improving the quality of public services. Moreover, municipality and environment is allocated QAR 22.2 billion (USD 6.09 billion), the sports sector QAR 7.6 billion (USD 2.08 billion) and commercial affairs QAR 4.1 billion (USD 1.12 billion). In addition transportation receives QAR 4.1 billion (USD 1.12 billion), communications QAR 3.8 billion (USD 1.04 billion) and social services QAR 2.8 billion (USD 760 million). As a result, the distribution reflects a balanced allocation of spending across vital sectors.

Contracting Plans For Key Sectors Highlighted

In terms of the government contracting plan for 2026 key sectors were highlighted. Accordingly, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) will issue tenders worth QAR 49 billion (USD 13.46 billion) with Public Health worth QAR 2.6 billion (USD 710 million). Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) will reveal tenders worth QAR 7.2 billion (USD 1.97 billion) with the Education Ministry offering QAR 2.3 billion (USD 630 million). The total amount of private sector tenders offered is approximately 4,464 worth over QAR 70 billion (USD 19.23 billion). Accordingly, this is part of the 2026 Government Procurement Plan reflecting Qatar`s strategy of enhancing public-private partnerships.
