Salalah Free Zone announced a usufruct project developing a fertiliser and chemicals complex worth OMR 40 million (USD 105 million). The initiative will produce 100,000 tonnes of both Sulphate of Potash and Granular Calcium Carbonate per year alongside other products.
Salalah Free Zone Strengthening Position As Regional Logistics Hub
The Salalah Free Zone project will target export markets across the Gulf Cooperation Council, India, Southeast Asia and East Africa. Importantly, it will support Oman’s expansion of non-oil exports while strengthening its position as a regional manufacturing and logistics hub. Moreover, the Salalah Free Zone agreement represents an important step in strengthening its position as a destination for high-value industries. Additionally, it will also support efforts to increase competitiveness as well as to build integrated industrial value chains and clusters.
Sulphate of Potash is a premium, low-chloride potassium fertiliser widely used for high-value crops including fruits, vegetables and nuts. It is used to support plant growth, crop quality and resilience to environmental stress. Granular Calcium Carbonate is used as a calcium source in agriculture and soil conditioning. In addition it is used as an industrial mineral and filler in plastics, paints, coatings, paper, rubber and construction materials.
Project To Generate Wider Economic Benefits In Line With Vision 2040
The project is expected to generate wider economic benefits including employment, increased In-Country Value and improve SME and supplier participation. It will also facilitate the transfer of technical expertise and industrial capabilities as well as support downstream and ancillary industries. The investment aligns with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, particularly economic diversification, private-sector development and industrial growth.
