Oman To Launch Central Asia Investment Platform

Oman is preparing to launch a new investment platform to further cross-border investments, according to a sovereign wealth fund official. Notably, the new fund will target Central Asia and will feature significant Chinese involvement including funding.

Oman`s Investment Authority Highlights  Chinese Collaboration

At the 10th Belt and Road Summit in Hong Kong, Oman`s Investment Authority (OIA) highlighted its previous successful Chinese partnerships. It revealed that three Oman based investment funds were previously established worth a combined OMR 268.72 million (USD 700 million). Most importantly, the OIA`s proposed new Central Asia fund has the aim of linking China, Oman and Central Asia. It is hoping to attract a major Chinese investor as a Limited Partner and build on its 15-year investment presence. Conversely, Chinese investors are increasingly looking to leverage Oman’s strategic location, low energy costs and expanding high tech port infrastructure.

OIA Invested Over OMR 770 million In China Earlier This Year

In June 2025, the OIA managed Future Fund Oman (FFO) partnered with Hong Kong-based Templewater to launch the Templewater Oman Localisation Fund. This is an OMR 76.97 million (USD 200 million) vehicle focused on clean molecules, energy storage, e-fuels, smart mobility, renewables and green data centres. Earlier this year, the OIA invested over OMR 770 million (USD 2 billion) in China across sectors including healthcare, biotech and technology.

Previously, in 2024, the FFO launched two private equity funds with Chinese partners. Notably, the OMR 76.78 (USD 200 million) IDG Oman Sustainable Fund, in partnership with IDG Capital, targets advanced manufacturing and cleantech sectors in Oman. Moreover, the OMR 95.97 million (USD 250 million) eWTP Oman Sustainable Fund was jointly established with eWTP Arabia Capital. It focuses on ICT, renewable energy, tourism and agricultural projects in Oman. Importantly, its core objective is to attract foreign direct investment from Chinese industrial leaders.
