Oman`s Capital Muscat One of Safest Global Cities

Oman`s capital city Muscat, has been ranked as the seventh safest in the world, according to global statistics platform Numbeo. Of 382 cities evaluated worldwide, Muscat secured its position as a premier location for safety, security and quality of life. It follows closely behind regional counterparts including Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Manama, and Doha as well as Taipei in Taiwan – East Asia. Notably, these cities are well known for their advanced infrastructure and stringent safety regulations.

Muscat`s Exceptionally Low Scores

Numbeo’s dual Crime and Safety Indexes provide comprehensive insights into the overall security climate of cities across the globe. Muscat achieved exceptionally low scores for incidents such as vehicle theft, robbery, physical assault, drug-related crimes and vandalism. Accordingly, such ratings indicate a highly secure urban environment for residents, expatriates and tourists alike. Furthermore, Muscat scored well for personal safety, including walking alone during daylight and at night – both critical for residents peace and traveller confidence.

Muscat`s Infrastructure Development Initiatives

Most importantly, this recognition aligns with Muscat’s ongoing economic and infrastructural development initiatives in line with the Oman Vision 40. As part of the national strategy for sustainable growth, the Governorate of Muscat is currently implementing transformative projects aimed at enhancing tourism, boosting investor confidence and fostering a resilient, inclusive urban ecosystem.

The Al Khuwair Muscat Downtown and Waterfront Development

Demonstrating such initiatives, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning (MoHUP) announced its plans for a waterfront project in Muscat covering 3.3 million square metres. The Al Khuwair Muscat Downtown and Waterfront Development will incorporate sustainable designs and prioritise the wellbeing of residents and visitors. The MoHUP predicts residency numbers in Muscat will almost double from 1.5 million to 2.7 million inhabitants by 2040. Furthermore, the city is becoming increasingly popular with international visitors, with 3 million tourist visits recorded last year.
