Oman recently signed an agreement with a leading Chinese group for the 500MW Al Kamil I Solar Independent Power Project. Accordingly, the contract is worth OMR 85.37 million (USD 222 million) and will provide engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services.
Solar Power Project Being Developed In Al Kamil Wal Wafi
The plant is in Al Kamil Wal Wafi, 230 kilometres from Muscat International Airport and 440 kilometres from Sohar Port. It is being jointly developed by EDF Power Solutions with Oman Power and Water Procurement Company serving as power purchaser. On completion, the 500 MW Al Kamil I Solar IPP will supply clean electricity to Oman’s national grid. In addition, it will contribute to the Sultanate’s strategy to increase renewable energy capacity and diversify its power generation mix. The Chinese group’s scope includes design, manufacturing, procurement, supply, factory testing, transportation, installation and construction of the solar PV facility. In addition it includes grid connection to the high-voltage substation and testing and commissioning. It also includes 28 months of operation and maintenance services following the completion and commissioning of the photovoltaic power station.

In associated news, Oman will commence food exports to America after obtaining registration with US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The agreement enables companies to market products in the United States thereby strengthening the global profile of Omani-produced food. Registration with the FDA is a mandatory requirement for food manufacturers wishing to export products to the United States. It confirms that production facilities comply with regulatory requirements governing food imports and enhances confidence among international buyers and consumers.
