Oman Launches Major Healthcare Expansion

Oman`s Ministry of Health (MOH) is embarking on a major healthcare expansion to build 9 hospitals with a total of more than 1,660 beds. A further 5 referral hospitals and 15 primary healthcare institutions are presently under expansion and nine dialysis units are under construction.

MOH Supporting Goals of Oman Vision 2040

Importantly, the major expansion supports the goals of the Oman Vision 40. Moreover it is included in the Tenth Five-Year Health Development Plan (2021–2025) to advance the healthcare system and health planning in the Sultanate.

Projects in Progress Across the Sultanate

Among the most prominent Ministry Of Health projects underway is the new Sultan Qaboos Hospital in Salalah, a seven-story hospital with 700 beds. The hospital, at a total cost of OMR 138 million (USD 358.47 million), will have the latest medical equipment. Furthermore, it will feature specialised clinics, treatment units and pathology laboratories. In addition Dhofar Governorate is witnessing the construction and expansion of 9 hospitals and health centres at a cost exceeding OMR 160 million (USD 415.61 million). In Al Sharqiyah North Governorate, work is well underway on a OMR 56 million (USD 145.46 million) hospital. It will offer 150 beds across surgical, pediatric and pediatric intensive care wards as well as a premature infant ward.

Foundation Stone Recently Laid for Al Falah Hospital

Notably, in Al Sharqiyah South Governorate, the foundation stone for Al Falah Hospital was recently laid. Costing OMR 52 million (USD 135.08 million), it will have 170 beds and will be completed in 30 months. Construction work in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate continues on the new Samayil Hospital, with over 25% of the project complete. Currently being built on an area of 250,000 square metres, it will cost of OMR 45 million (USD 116.89 million). Finally, Al Suwaiq Hospital in Al Batinah North Governorate is nearing completion worth OMR 75 million (USD 194.82 million).
