The Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) recently announced the launch of the Riyadh Digital District initiative. The scheme aims to transform Saudi Arabia`s capital into a global hub for technology talent, digital creativity and entrepreneurship.
New District To Target Specialised Technology Companies In Six Areas
The Riyadh Digital District will focus on building a knowledge-based economy by attracting specialised technology companies/talent across six key areas. These include artificial intelligence and big data, cybersecurity, cloud computing and services, the Internet of Things, blockchain technology and robotics/drones. In addition, Riyadh Digital District will offer incentives for large and medium-sized digital companies, fast-growing companies and upcoming innovative startups. Furthermore it will provide advanced digital infrastructure including a wide range of services/facilities aimed at supporting the capital`s digital economy. The initiative aims to make Riyadh one of the world’s top 10 technology regions, further strengthening its position as a global destination for digital talent.
The RCRC highlighted its digital progress, noting that Saudi ranked second globally in the World Bank’s GovTech Maturity Index 2025. Moreover, it placed first in ICT Development Index 2025 and among the leading countries in the Stanford AI Index 2025. Riyadh also topped the StartupBlink 2026 index, highlighting its fast growth among the world’s top 100 cities and G20 capitals.
