Saudi Arabia`s Ministry of Tourism recently announced record breaking results for the “Saudi Summer” campaign. Over 32 million international and domestic tourists were recorded visiting the Kingdom, marking a 26% increase compared to last year.
Saudi Tourism Spend Reaching New Heights
Importantly, tourism spending also increased – reaching new highs of SAR 53.2 billion (USD 14.19 billion), representing a 15% year-on-year rise. Notably, the southern Asir region saw exceptional growth in arrivals from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, recording a 49% upsurge over the previous summer. Accordingly, this reflects the efforts of the Saudi tourism ecosystem to promote the Kingdom as a leading tourism destination. In addition, the sectors success also aligns with contributing to the objectives of the Saudi Vision 2030. These efforts include creating distinctive tourism products, hosting international events and cultural activities and improving service to meet tourists expectations.
Campaign Promoting Six Diverse Locations Launched In June
The campaign was launched in June during a workshop highlighting the tourism ecosystem to both public and private sector partners. The themed programme – “Colour Your Summer,” promoted six diverse destinations including coastal escapes in Jeddah and the Red Sea. Further destinations included mountainous retreats in the cities of Taif and Al-Baha as well as the region of Asir. Key highpoints included the Esports World Cup and the Jeddah and Asir Seasons, which offered various activities and shows. The Kingdom’s ongoing efforts aim to attract visitors year-round, with preparations already underway to launch the Saudi Winter season. Moreover the industry is continuing to work on innovative new offerings, including additional global events and improving sports related tourism.
