Saudi King Salman International Airport Tenders

Saudi King Salman International Airport Development Company (KSIADC) is preparing to tender two new infrastructure contracts. These include the construction of a permanent East-West corridor and landside access roads serving the North and South terminals. As a result, the scope of work includes construction of roads, bridges and tunnels.

Saudi King Salman International Airport To Be Worlds Largest By 2050

Saudi King Salman International Airport is projected to become the world’s largest airport and will accommodate 185 million passengers annually by 2050. Additionally, it spans nearly 57 square kilometres and will integrate the existing facilities of King Khalid International Airport. Upon completion it will  encompass six parallel runways, aviation support zones, logistics facilities, retail districts and residential developments. Nine terminals are planned, including a royal terminal, a commercial terminal, a dedicated private aviation terminal and a cargo terminal.

The 4,200 metre runway has been designed to align with Riyadh’s prevailing wind conditions to improve safety and operational efficiency. Accordingly, it is expected to raise the airport’s hourly movement capacity from 65 to 85 aircraft once operational. In addition, a new passenger terminal, designed to handle 40 million passengers annually, is set to begin construction in 2026. This will mark the first major phase of Riyadh’s strategy to build the mega aviation hub. King Salman International Airport confirmed the next phase will include new aircraft hangars and airside infrastructure, with operations beginning 2029.

Airport Expansion To Be Completed Before Start Of Riyadh Expo 2030

Announcement of the new infrastructure tender follows three groups being selected to deliver terminal 6 aprons, taxiways and other infrastructure. KSIADC, a Public Investment Fund entity, commenced work on the project’s third runway with a joint venture of Spain’s FCC Construcción and Saudi contractor Al-Mabani General Contractors. The entire project is expected to be delivered before the start of Expo 2030 Riyadh.
