Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC) recently launched the Junior Mining Platform, designed to attract investment into early-stage geological exploration projects. The initiative was announced and the opening of applications invited during the initial meeting of the AIFC Mining Experts Council.
Junior Mining Platform Connects Mining Companies And Investors
The Junior Mining Platform is an initiative which sees the Astana International Financial Centre connects junior mining companies and investors. Accordingly, it provides investors with access to projects in the mining and metals industry and license holders with access to capital. The Mining Experts Council (Council) was established as an advisory body under the Astana International Financial Centre. It will support development of Kazakhstan’s mining and metals sector using modern financial instruments and the attraction of private capital. The Council brings together leading industry participants including representation from national companies, international investors and the Astana International Financial Centre.
Astana International Financial Centre Reveals 65% Of Kazakhstan Unexplored
According to the AIFC report “Kazakhstan as a Minerals Investment Hub: Unlocking Potential through the AIFC” Kazakhstan has substantial potential. It reveals that currently, over 65% of Kazakhstan’s territory remains geologically underexplored while only 3,000 exploration licenses have been issued. In addition, the report’s findings note that the sector`s development requires substantial investment.
In 2024, the mining sector accounted for 12.1% of GDP and approximately 33% of the country’s total exports. The country holds significant reserves of copper, gold, chromium, rare earth metals and other minerals. Notably, metallurgy and mining projects account for 17% of Kazakhstan’s total FDI valued at KZT 1.4 trillion (USD 3 billion). Furthermore, global capital demand in the extractive industry is projected to reach KZT 974.4 trillion (USD 2.1 trillion) by 2050.
